How To Prepare For You Ultrasound:

Abdominal Ultrasound

Your doctor has ordered an ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND procedure to evaluate your ABDOMINAL ORGANS

  • Liver
  • Pancreas
  • Renal /Renal Artery (Kidneys)
  • Aorta
  • Gallbladder
  • Spleen
  • Trans Cranial

Nothing to eat or drink for 6- 8 hours before your exam.

Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled time

You may take all prescribed medications as directed by your physician with small sips of water.

Please avoid wearing perfumes or colognes.

Morning appointments are preferred.

Trans-Abdominal Pelvic Ultrasound

Uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, urinary bladder

Don’t Empty Bladder until your test is complete

Drink 40 Oz. of Fluid within the hour prior to your test.

Upon arrival for your test, drink two (2) 8-ounce glasses of water.

 

Trans-Vaginal Pelvic

Wear clothing is comfortable and easy to remove with buttons to the front preferably pants and top.

You may be asked to wear a gown.

 

Bring the following with you on the day of your test:

A copy of the prescription for your examination if it was given to you.

A list of your current medications.

 

What to expect on the day of the test:

  1. You will be asked to verify your identification and exam.
  2. Patient verification is an important part of your safety and you will be asked to verify your identification more than once during your visit.
  3. staff will ask you to complete registration forms that will allow us to collect your medical history and any necessary information.
  4. A sonography student or preceptor will then escort you to the lab area.
  5. Your information will be reviewed including your medical history.
  6. You will be instructed to lie on the examination table in a specific position.
  7. The procedure will be explained to you before the starting.
  8. Your sonographer will apply gel to your skin in the area of interest and press firmly against the skin with an ultrasound transducer probe.
  9. Your Sonographer will move the probe along the skin in order to obtain the best possible images.
  10. Transvaginal ultrasound exams in which the transducer probe is inserted into the vagina to provide a closer look at internal structures. You may experience minimal discomfort. Notify the sonographer if you experience any pain during an examination.
  11. Upon completion the gel is wiped off the skin. Most ultrasound examinations take approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
  12. All non-emergency reports are available within 48 to 72 hours
